Complaint from Danah Cherry

My husband and I went to Babe’s yesterday around maybe 4:00pm. Upon entrance, there was no host to seat us. We ended up going to the To Go area to inquire about being seated. The person in To Go told us to return to the host stand and we should be seated. Shortly after, someone seated us in the back up the restaurant in a corner like area. We were given silverware and sat down.

We sat for almost ten minutes before anyone touched our table. The manager was also serving. He passed us a few times without acknowledging us or providing a menu or asking what we would like to drink. Nothing. At that point, we noticed no one was truly speaking to us.

At that point, I was about to go and let someone know we had been sitting there. But, a server (female) showed up and asked if I had been helped. I told her no and I was about to say something. Mind you, we just finished bowling and was starving. We purposely chose Babes and the CH location specifically. Anyway, the manager was in earshot of this and approached us. He explained that they were short staffed. To me, that’s ok. I understand that. But we were never acknowledged from the times we entered without having to get someone to notice we were there for food and service. I told the manager I no longer wanted to dine there. He replied “Ok we’ll have a good day!”, turned his back on us and continued with the party he walked away from to tell us that.

At that moment, not only do I feel dismissed, but offended. The other server who initially approached us asked how she could help. I asked her to leave the area because she didn’t deserve what was coming next. I let the manager know that I felt dismissed and used some very colorful words and we left. I asked him why all the African Americans were placed in the back, as well. The restaurant was filled with empty tables in areas where people were. I am not pleased as Babe’s is my favorite place to dine in that area. But the manager cannot treat people like this.
